Preservatives and antioxidants in cosmetic products by LC-MS/MS
We have developed a new service in the field of cosmetic products testing – Determination of preservatives and antioxidants in cosmetic products. The list of substances with which the test method is validated includes: methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, isopropylparaben, benzylparaben, butylparaben, triclosan, DL-α-tocopherol acetate, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT).
The test is based on an interlaboratory method based on tandem mass spectrometry liquid chromatography. The service is requested for extending the scope of accreditation of the laboratory.
In accordance with the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 30 November 2009, it is necessary that the maximum levels for certain products do not exceed the permitted level in the finished cosmetic product:
5-Chloro-2- (2,4-dichlorophenoxy) phenol (triclosan) maximum 0.3%;
4-Hydroxybenzoic acid, its salts and esters (4-hydroxybenzoic acid, methyl paraben, butyl paraben, potassium ethyl paraben, potassium paraben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, sodium paraben, sodium ethyl paraben, sodium propylparaben, sodium butylparaben, sodium isobutylparaben, ethylparaben, sodium paraben, isopropylparabenobenzene , potassium methylparaben, potassium butylparaben, potassium propylparaben, sodium propylparaben, calcium paraben, phenylparaben) maximum 0.4% (as acid) for a single ester and up to 0.8% (as acid) for mixtures of esters.
